Inaugural PCNSW 928 Register,
Run to Berry 18th April 2004
Approximately fifteen Porsches
gathered at the Brighton le Sands Beach Car Park on this bright and
sunny Sunday.
A great selection of Porsches. 928's (of course)
including a pair of near identical ’95 Midnight Blue GTS's
belonging to Andrew Cusack and Leonard Zech. John Marossezeky’s
968. A strong showing of Boxsters including Boxster Registrar Gary
& Julie Martin and Greg & Jan Reed. A pair of pristine 911's
including Brian and Alex's Silver 993. 944 Registrar Terry Carter also
joined us and enjoyed part of the trip before heading on to another
event.
The trip took us through the twisty and
picturesque (more a goat track) road, through the Royal National
Park. A brief stop at Stanwell Tops to regroup and then onward to
Berry.
Just after Albion Park the group encountered a
large and sluggish traffic jam halting our progress. This caused a
brief moment of confusion (it wouldn't be a Club run if this didn't
happen) as a couple of ‘pilots’ decided to u-turn and take
another route via Albion Park. The rest of us continued on, braving
the RTA induced 'traffic slug'. Eventually it dissipated around the
Jamberoo turnoff and we continued on at a more sensible pace through
Kiama and on to Berry.
We were also joined at the Mathews' by Shoalhaven
locals and 928 owners Graham and Gayle Bates, Geoff and Donna Allen with son Mark, and Barry
& Terri Walsh.
Peter & Robyn's property is set on about five acres
of grassed and landscaped rural beauty with a B&B onsite (for future
reference) and less than a kilometre away from the coast. With three
(pet) horses at the bottom of the yard, a beach-rock pathway
surrounding the sculptured waterhole and the views west to the
escarpment made it a tranquil and enjoyable location to have our
BBQ/Picnic. A great spot to sit and relax, read a book or just fly a
kite!
The rest of the day was spent enjoying the
facilities, with much cooking, eating and drinking. Many
conversations and the admiring of various Porsche models took place
and we couldn’t have asked for any better weather.
Thanks to Peter & Robyn Mathew for hosting our
inaugural PCNSW 928 Register event. For the record it was Peter and
Robyn who hosted the very first ‘928 Australia’ event at their
farm in Marulan, so history has repeated itself this fine day.
Thanks to 928 Registrar Glenn Evans, Leonard Zech
and all of you who supported and participated in this event to make
it a truly memorable day's outing. - Leonard Zech & Glenn Evans, 928 Registrar
