'82 928 S Anniversary Model

The car is an '82 Anniversary model. It was originally built and finished in Meteor Metallic but has been fully resprayed in what I believe is 1994 Diamond black, a GTS colour. - Graham

At the end of 1981 Porsche launched a special series of 140 Porsche 928 S cars in a meteor metallic finish to celebrate the company's 50th jubilee.

These examples were luxuriously fitted in wine red leather and fabric and the seat backs were embellished with the "F. Porsche" logo.

New features for the standard 928 and 928 S included;

  • a petrol consumption display

  • a cassette compartment

  • and an additional compartment to the left below the instrument panel.

  • The 928 now had the four-spoke steering wheel of its big brother, in which the electrically adjustable seats had been incorporated as standard.

The 928 S which the British trade journal Motor described as an

'unmatched mix of performance, economy, design precision, road-holding, processing quality and fittings'

also received special recognition in the so-called JPS car test. JPS stood for the John Players Special and it was looking for 10 individualists with the aid of a special questionnaire to test an exclusive sports car.

The test drive was to be an enticing tour from Munich to Monte Carlo and one of the dream cars used by JPS was a Porsche 928 S. It was a lady who eventually sat behind its wheel. Chosen by a jury from 80,000 applicants, she claimed the Porsche as her favourite car at the end of the drive. - Graham Bates
